About
Ferdowsi1000.com is devoted to the Persian language, Persian literature, and Iranian culture from the days of the Persian epic poet Ferdowsi onward. The site’s name alludes to the fact that a thousand years have passed since Ferdowsi completed his famous verse redaction of Persian Iranian legends, myths, tales, and history called Shâhnâmeh [(The) Book of Kings]. Ferdowsi1000.com got its impetus from a Spring 2009 Persian literature seminar at The University of Texas at Austin called “Ferdowsi’s Shâhnâmeh and the Epic Tradition” and a conference held in conjunction with the seminar called “Ferdowsi Teach-In at Texas.” In the Spring of 2010, a parallel Persian literature seminar on “Rumi and the Sufi Tradition” and a Rumi conference will take place. A Hâfez seminar and conference are in the works for the Spring of 2011.
Ferdowsi1000.com features reviews and review articles on Persian writing and writing on Iranian culture, English translations of Persian writing, essays on language, literature, and culture, annotated bibliographies on Persian language and literature and Iranian culture subjects, annotated links to other Persian language and literature and Iranian culture web sites, self-study Persian language materials, and announcements of events.
